I recently asked some contacts if they would ’stumble’ the page for me and I offered to stumble them back. Not being up on all the social media sites there are, and personally being at least 6 months behind the times, I thought everyone knew about ‘StumbleUpon‘ and used it. The site has 7 million users and I have used it for around a year now. It seems that some didn’t know about it so I thought I would explain.
Social bookmarking is a way of sharing what you find interesting when surfing the web. When you share something of interest, you are helping others to learn, find something useful and send traffic to the website that you like.
One of the easiest ways to do this is using Firefox as your web browser and the Stumbleupon Firefox Add-on.
You will also need to set up an account at StumbleUpon. Time taken, approx 15 minutes to set up and then hours of fun.
OK, so the Sarah Arrow guide to stumbling around StumbleUpon
, yes, I smirk at my own jokes. All inaccuracies and misconceptions are entirely my own… as always.
1. Get an account at StumbleUpon.
2. Add the firefox plugin for StumbleUpon
3. Restart Firefox
4.Your browser bar will now look like the image below
How to Stumble…
When you see a website you like, give it the thumbs up ![]()
You may be asked to add a review, this is where you say about what you liked on the site, you add a category and tag it with words about the page you have stumbled. This is a good thing to do, and takes about 30 seconds.
You will also see the Stumble button on the page, press this at your peril! it’s highly addictive
soon you will find many pages on the web that are interesting and informative. If you like them, then give them the thumbs up too.
Stumble helps like minded individuals find interesting content on the web. In the right categories, it will help you drive traffic to websites. Behind the scenes there is a community and you will find people looking at what you have bookmarked, and they will follow you and interact with you, sending recommendation and asking for you to give them the thumbs up. Don’t give them the green light just for the sake of it, as you will build fans based on your preferences and if you are asked to support something that conflicts with your beliefs you won’t feel very happy.
So if you like this post and found it useful, please add it to stumble and give it the thumbs up.
Let me know how you get on with it
