Using Feedburner

I set up our Feedburner account 2.5 years ago and every now and then I pop back and tweak something but generally I forget about Feedburner. Friday I got a wake up call when a project I am working on required me to add Feedburner to the blog and I had forgot how to use it!

Feedburner is a good way of monitoring your readers via feed (like how many you have) as well as having a read by email option. Feedburner manages all the subscription opt in etc so if you are not confident enough to set up your own subscribe my email service, you can use theirs.

They also supply the code for a rotating headline image -

Sarah Arrow

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

The above headline animator is handy if you post a lot in forums or send a lot of email as it is easily added to forum signatures and email. Useful if you have a blog to publicise.

A few years back Google acquired the service and they did away with numeric IDs, sadly my brain has yet to catch up and every now and then you will see me ask on twitter what my Feedburner ID is.

Your ID is now found in your feedburner feed URL. If my feed URL was

http://feeds1.feedburner.com/SarahArrow

then SarahArrow would be my Feedburner ID

Much easier to remember.

Do you use Feedburner? What do you use it for?

Sarah
